FIDE World Junior Chess Championship U20 in Venezuela: Registration Is Open

The 2026 youth chess season is entering a new phase. Who Can Play in the World Championship?

* the top three players from the previous 2025 World Junior Championship;

* winners of the previous year's continental junior championships;

* the six highest-rated U20 Open players in the FIDE rating list as of January 1, 2026;

* the four highest-rated U20 girls in the FIDE rating list on the same date;

* the previous year's world champions in the U18 and U16 boys' and girls' categories.

As a result, the tournament will bring together several groups of the strongest young players: reigning champions, continental titleholders and highly rated players.

Registration Is Now Open

FIDE officially announced the opening of registration on August 25, 2026. Applications will be accepted until October 16, 2026. The same deadline applies to participants who require visa assistance.

One important detail is that registration must be completed through national chess federations using the official FIDE registration form. A player's individual submission does not replace the registration procedure through their federation.

The official registration form requires participants to provide personal and passport information, their FIDE ID, travel and accommodation details, and information about whether visa support is required. A passport-style photograph for accreditation and a copy of the passport's biographical-information page must also be attached.

For this reason, potential participants should avoid leaving the paperwork until the final days.
