FIDE World Junior Rapid and Blitz Championships: Registration Open Until October 27
FIDE World Junior Rapid and Blitz Championships 2026: Registration Extended to October 27
Preparing for an international tournament begins long before the first move. Players need to coordinate their entry with their national federation, arrange travel and complete the necessary paperwork. Young players still finalising those preparations now have more time: registration for the FIDE World Junior Under-20 Rapid and Blitz Championships has been extended to October 27, 2026. FIDE announced the extension on October 15.

The extra week gives players and federations an opportunity to complete their arrangements and focus on preparing for the competition.
What Has Changed?
The original registration deadline was October 20. It has now been moved to October 27. The extension covers three requirements: player registration, hotel reservations and receipt of all necessary payments.
Submitting an entry form alone is therefore not enough. Players and federations should also check that accommodation arrangements and payments are complete. Resolving these details before departure will make it easier to concentrate on chess.
Where and When Will the Championships Take Place?
The championships will be held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, from November 1 to 7, 2026. November 1 is the arrival day, while November 7 is reserved for departures.
The event is organised by FIDE, the UAE Chess Federation and the Al Ain Chess & Mind Games Club.
Players will compete in two disciplines that demand both positional understanding and quick decisions. Rapid chess offers some room to pause and check a calculation. In blitz, decisions often have to be made within seconds, and recovering from a mistake becomes an essential part of the contest.
Who Can Take Part?
The championships are open to players born on or after January 1, 2006. Each FIDE member federation may register an unlimited number of players. Entries must be submitted through national federations.
For young competitors, the event offers a chance to test themselves against opponents from around the world. Faster time controls place particular demands on practical skills: managing the clock, spotting tactical opportunities and staying composed after a difficult game.
Who Is Eligible for Free Accommodation?
The winners of the 2025 World Junior Rapid and Blitz Championships, along with leading players on the starting lists, will be offered free full-board accommodation in twin rooms.
FIDE’s announcement specifies five players from each of the rapid and blitz lists in both the Open and Girls’ sections. Eligibility and the precise accommodation arrangements should be confirmed during registration.
How to Register
The official registration website is juniorrapidandblitz2026.fide.com. Questions about participation can be sent to [email protected].
Before completing the process, players and federations should check the entry details, confirm accommodation and ensure that all payments will be received by the deadline.
An Extra Week to Make It to the Starting Line
The registration extension leaves the sporting challenge unchanged: players will compete for world titles in formats where time is as valuable as the pieces on the board. What it does provide is another week to arrive at that challenge properly prepared.
For anyone still finalising their trip, October 27 is now the key date. Once the arrangements are complete, attention can turn to the games—and to the calculation, composure and resourcefulness needed to find strong moves under pressure.
