FIDE World Championship 2026 Tickets: Sales Open
Tickets Now on Sale for the Salesforce FIDE World Championship: How to Watch Gukesh vs Sindarov in Person
You can follow a world chess championship match from anywhere in the world. But being close to the playing hall, feeling the tension before the first move and discussing an unexpected sacrifice with fellow fans is a different experience altogether. This autumn, spectators will have that opportunity in Switzerland.

On October 14, FIDE announced that tickets for the Salesforce FIDE World Championship 2026 had gone on sale. Reigning world champion Dommaraju Gukesh of India will face challenger Javokhir Sindarov of Uzbekistan. Visitors can choose between two options: a VIP Day Pass and a Fan Zone Pass.
Where and When Will the Match Take Place?
The championship will be held at the Fondation Martin Bodmer in Cologny, in the canton of Geneva. The official programme begins on November 22, with the first classical game scheduled for November 24.
The match will consist of up to 14 classical games, with the final game scheduled for December 11. If the scores are level after the classical portion, a tie-break will take place on December 12. The first player to reach 7½ points will win the title.
When planning your trip, remember that the championship opening and the start of play fall on different dates: the first game takes place two days after the official programme begins.
Gukesh vs Sindarov: A New Generation Takes Centre Stage
Both players will be 20 years old when the match begins. According to FIDE, this will be the youngest world chess championship match in history.
For Gukesh, it will be the first defence of the title he won in Singapore in 2024. Sindarov earned the right to challenge him by winning the 2026 Candidates Tournament, becoming the first player from Uzbekistan to contest a match for the undisputed world chess crown.
That contrast gives the encounter a special appeal. One player already knows what it takes to withstand the pressure of a world championship match. The other will face that test for the first time—a contest shaped by weeks of preparation for a single opponent, where every decision carries exceptional weight.
Which Tickets Are Available?
VIP Day Pass: Watch the Players from Inside the Playing Hall
The VIP Day Pass includes approximately one hour of access to the playing hall. Spectators will watch from a balcony overlooking the hall, where places are strictly limited.
Pass holders also have access to the VIP lounge. FIDE’s official announcement names Peter Svidler and Peter Leko as the live commentators for guests. This option combines a chance to watch the players in person with expert analysis of the action on the board.
Fan Zone Pass: Enjoy a Day of Chess with Fellow Fans
The Fan Zone Pass is designed for visitors who want to follow the match alongside other chess enthusiasts. The area will offer live coverage with commentary, chess activities and a photo zone.
On selected days, organisers also plan to host simultaneous exhibitions, tournaments, masterclasses and question-and-answer sessions with grandmasters. This ticket does not include access to the playing hall or the VIP lounge.
How Much Do Tickets Cost?
As checked on October 14, the official ticket website listed the following starting prices:
Ticket category | Advertised price |
|---|---|
Fan Zone Pass | From CHF 19 |
VIP Day Pass | From CHF 299 |
These are minimum prices, rather than fixed rates for every date. The organisers use dynamic pricing: tickets are released in stages, and prices increase as sales progress and the championship approaches. Check the final price for your chosen day before booking. Salesforce FIDE World Championship
Where to Buy Tickets and What to Know Before You Go
Tickets are available through the official website, tickets.fide.com. When booking, select your visit date and ticket category. For a VIP Day Pass, you must also choose a time slot for access to the playing hall.
Each ticket is valid for one visitor on the specified day. Once payment is confirmed, a PDF ticket with a QR code is sent to the buyer by email.
Strict rules apply inside the playing hall. Spectators must remain completely silent and leave phones, cameras, smartwatches and other electronic devices outside. Photography and video recording are prohibited. Keep these conditions in mind when planning your visit, particularly if your main goal is to watch the players during a game.
A Chance to Witness Chess History
The first move is still more than a month away, but fans can already start making concrete plans: choosing a day, deciding how they want to experience the match and arranging their trip.
Some will travel to Switzerland for an hour of quiet observation above the chessboard. Others will prefer the fan zone, lively discussions and games of their own between moves in the championship match. The outcome of Gukesh vs Sindarov remains unknown—and that is precisely what makes the chance to witness it in person so compelling.
